On Friday, May 10, 2023, Marjorie Selena Burris Bowman transitioned to her heavenly home. HALLELUJAH!!! She was born May 5, 1944, in York, South Carolina to John Henry Burris and Molly Selena Williams Burris. Marjorie spent her formative years in York and was a graduate of Jefferson High School Class of 1962. She relocated to Morristown, NJ where she met and married the love of her life Ralph Bowman. From this union they were blessed with a son, Sean Jermaine of Wharton, NJ. Marjorie became a loving mother to her grandson, Sean Jermaine, Jr. ensuring his Christian, social and educational development was the best affordable. Marjorie was also a loving mother to her nieces, Raquel Monique and Marina Bernadette, raising them as children of her very own until their adulthood.
Marjorie held a variety of jobs where her positions were in leadership roles: Freeman’s Store, RCA, Hertz and Pzifer Pharmaceutical. She and her husband also owned several businesses in New Jersey and in Creedmoor.
Marjorie’s first Christian experience was at Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church in York, SC where she was an active member on all youth programs. Upon relocating, she joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Boonton, NJ. Marjorie was President of the Missionary Society, President of the Deaconess Board and a very active member of the Choir. Upon joining Evans Marjorie was President of the Deaconness Board and a choir member. Words cannot express how she reached out to the community in every way possible to talk about her Christian walk. Though Marjorie was not a constant talker, her sweet smile permeated the environment wherever she went. Family and friends alike will never forget.
