Jimmy Reams

Jimmy was born on December 4. 1968, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Reverend Patricia Reams and the late James Brooks. He was educated in the Durham Public School system and attended North Carolina Central University for a short period of time. Jimmy developed a love for music at a very age.  He honed his musical gifts at his home church, Good Tidings Chapel in Durham North Carolina. He was a talented trumpet player for the Durham High Bulldogs and the Marching Sound Machine of North Carolina  Central University. He was also a founding member of Unity, a local band in the Durham community. In addition to the trumpet, Jimmy played piano and keyboard for Good Tidings Chapel and served as a musician for numerous churches and organizations. His musical journey allowed him the honor of playing alongside renowned artists such as Shirley Caesar, John P. Kee, and Roberta Flack. Beyond music, Jimmy was a hardworking man with many skills. He worked as a carpet installer, handyman, and truck driver, always willing to lend his talents wherever they were needed. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, and his son, Amari Reams. He is survived by his loving; one son, Kellee Steele Reams, and one daughter, Makayla Reams. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory the mothers of his children, Taronya Smith and Tina Steele, along with a host of relatives and friends.
