Dorothy Louise Peoples Laney, daughter of Deloris Peoples and the late John H Barton Sr., was born on July 20, 1963 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She received her angel wings on January 31, 2021.She received her early formal education in the Harrisburg Public Schools. On July 31, 2004, she married the late Lester Lee Laney.
Dorothy was known for her famous smile that could light up a room. Everyone loved her fried chicken and shrimp. She loved to joke around, to laugh, listen to music, but most importantly she loved being around her family.
During her working career, she was employed by Poly Clinic, where she worked in dining for 7 years. She was employed by Duke University East Campus, where she worked in dining for 12 years and was known as the “Marketplace Auntie.” She was working at Treyburn Rehabilitation Center in dining service when she was called home.
Her husband Lester Lee Laney and Father John H. Barton Sr, preceded her in death and she leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her precious memories, 3 sons, Jonathan Peoples, Lamar Peoples, and Barry Holt all of Durham, NC; her mother Deloris Peoples of Durham, NC; 2 brothers, John H. Barton (Porky), Tyrone Peoples both of Harrisburg, Pa; 2 sisters, Theresa Mallard of Harrisburg, Pa, and Sonya Sutton Taylor (Danny) of Graham, NC; 4 grandchildren, Tijon Peoples of Durham, NC, Jonathan Peoples II of Tampa, Fl; Neveah Peoples of Durham, NC and Chanelle Holt of Charlotte, NC; a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
