Daniel Edward Bluford was born to the late William Edward Jennette and the late Ella Louvonia Bluford on April 19, 1944 and joined our Creator the morning of December 16, 2020.
Daniel was educated in Philadelphia Public Schools and served and retired from the Armed Forces of the United States of America. Among many honors, Corporal Bluford, a Vietnam War Veteran, received the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal Combat Award, the Infantry Badge, an Overseas Badge, The Army Commendation Medal, The Bronze Star Medal, and on the 16th day of December, 2015, Specialist Daniel E. Bluford received The Purple Heart.
This decorated serviceman also confessed his faith in Jesus Christ. On June 6, 2015, he was baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost at the Seventh Day Adventist Church and was then adopted into the family of God. For this, his family and friends should find comfort and relief, not grieving as those who have no hope but finding peace in God’s Word which confirms that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Therefore, we are encouraged. 1 Thess 4:13-18; 2 Cor 5:8.
He was a member of The Mission of Hope SDA Church of Robersonville, NC under the leadership of Pastor Jonathan Edwards.
Daniel’s television was often fixed on the sports channels. He was a die-hard fan of the teams from his hometown, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia 76ers. Daniel also loved a good western and he loved fashion. His closet was full, back to front, with stiffly starched jeans, starched shirts, suits and kango hats. The local dry cleaner has lost a faithful customer. Speaking of what he loved, it is undisputed that Daniel loved to charm the ladies and the ladies seemed to love him.
Daniel loved, and was supportive of, his children and grandchildren. Especially in the latter years, he desired to connect with them as much as possible. He was extremely close to his sister, Margo. They had a brother-sister bond whereas they were not just blood relatives, but they were also the best of friends.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, his twin sons, his brother-in-law, Franklin Jones, and his nephew Jamel Byrd.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his children and grandchildren – his son Anthony Bluford and his daughter Zaria Mitchell; his son Deacon Eric Bluford and his wife Pastor Keisha Bluford and their three daughters, Erica, Erice, and Erin; his daughter Kelly Bluford and her daughter, Kaylee Watson; and his son Cornee Orr of Durham, NC and his two daughters Nyla and Sani – one sister/best friend, Margo Jones; one nephew Bruce “Muki” Byrd and one niece Jamelia Byrd who both affectionately refer to Daniel as “Uncle Danny Boy”; and three cousins, Joann Newson, Elaine Rowe, William “Billie” Bluford, and Henry Jennette.
