Babe Ruth Lyons, born to the late William Edgar and late Bettie Pride Lyons on September 21, 1930 in Bahama North Carolina, was called home on Tuesday July 2, 2019.
He was educated in Durham County School at Little River. He had an
illustrious career in military service in the Air Force as a Staff Sgt. for 30 years that led to travels in Korea, Germany, Japan, Texas and Alaska.
During his military career he received his bachelor’s degree.
While stationed in Texas, he met and married his late wife Gwendolyn Love. They were married for 46 years and from this union was born three children, twins Aubra Rene Adams (Dwight), Arthur Gene Lyons, and the late Edgar Dewayne Lyons.
Throughout most of his adult life, he was a member of the Church of Christ living as a Christian through the teaching from the Bible and hoped his walk was an encouragement to others. After retiring from the military the family lived in Columbus Ohio, there he received his degree in Theology from Franklin University.
In 1986 Lyons moved his family to North Carolina where they settled in Durham, where he became Head of Security for the School of Math and
Science. After 20 years he retired from the state of North Carolina.
He had a tremendous life and he was a tremendous man, to those he leaves behind to mourn his passing are: Daughter Aubra (Dwight) Adams and Grandson Dexter Adams, Son Arthur Lyons, and Grandson Christopher (Brooke) Lyons and Great Grandchildren- Aysia, Israel, and London. His granddaughter Massiah Smith. His sisters Helen (Hubert) Holmes, Gwen (Henry- Deceased) Rountree and a host of other nieces and nephews. We will always love and miss him
