Art McClain was a friend to all. Of all the things he accomplished in his life, this was the thing that was the most obvious. Arthur “Big Art” McClain Jr. was born on Oct. 20. 1966 in Fort Bragg, NC. He was the sixth of seven children and the first of two sons of Arthur McClain Sr. and Inez Riley McClain. After traveling with his military family, they settled in Fayetteville, NC, where he became a member of Lewis Chapel Baptist Church.
He graduated from Douglas Byrd High School in 1985, where he was a star in the marching band. He went on to graduate from Fayetteville Technical Institute in 1988, gathering friends all along the way. He married Tammy Shelley, and three children soon followed. In 2011, he married Angie Cox, adding two more children. Art became a member of Greater Canaan Baptist Church, where he attended faithfully until his health failed.
On July 30, Art’s gentle and kind spirit left this earthly plain. He is survived by: his loving and devoted wife; his five children, Arthur III, Laila, Miles, Marcus, and Jordon; his nine grandchildren Quordaye, May, Isla, Zachariah, Lauryn, Mason, Maria, JaQuan, Skye. His mother Inez Riley McClain; his brother Anthony McClain (Rose); his sisters Rebecca Rodgers; Kimberly Bunyan (James); Dawn McClain; and many nieces and nephews.
