Alvin “Poochie” Tankard, 56, of Durham, North Carolina, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Duke University Medical Center. Born in Lewes, Delaware, on July 19, 1968, he was the beloved son of Loretta Covington and Alvin Garrison.
Alvin was a faithful member of Victory at Calvary Covenant Ministries for over 30 years. He was also a dedicated employee of Chicken Hut for 16 years and formerly served over a decade with Food Lion Corporation. He will be remembered for his kind heart, helpful spirit, and remarkable memory of family milestones.
He is survived by his mother, Loretta Covington; father, Alvin Garrison; sister, Tamara Covington; sister-in-law, Nicole Covington; maternal grandmother, Pastor Mae Ethel Parker; nieces and nephews Marquise, George, Trinity, William, and Elizabeth Covington; great-nieces and nephews Essence, Bryah, Theodore, Laylani, and Simeon; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
