Gloria Hester Manley was born December 29, 1953 in Durham County to the late Robert Lee and Isabella McCright Hester. She departed this life on Monday, September 2, 2019 at her home.
Gloria was educated in the Durham City Schools to include Hillside and graduating from high school at Durham High School in 1972. She further her education at North Carolina Central University and Durham Technical Community College. At DTCC she mastered Secretarial Science and pursued a career as a secretary. She was employed by the Durham Housing
Authority, Lincoln Apartments and also at The Shoe Doctor.
Gloria was formerly a member of AHOD Worship Center, under the leadership of Bishop Jerry Meadows. Later she became a member of Lincoln Memorial under the leadership of Rev.Linzie Atkins, III. There she was active in the choir and many other ministries.
Gloria was one who demonstrated her service to God, Winning Souls for Christ. She expressed her gift in writing poetry. She published books, Shadows of My Mind in 1982 and God is the Sunshine of My Life in 1994. She was an avid writer of poetry and would share to encourage mankind. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Robert Hester, Jr., Carl McCright and Ervin L Hester, Sr.,and a sister Regina Hester Lawson. She leaves to mourn her husband, John Manley. Four brothers, Weldon Hester, Buffalo, NY, Wilford (Barbara) Hester, Larry (Denise) Hester of Durham, NC, Ulysses Hester (Sandra), New Orleans, LA. Four sisters, Glenda (Bill) Alston, Cynthia (Samuel) Hester-Jackson, Shirley Yvonne Hester and Isabella Cradle, all of Durham, NC. A host of God children,
relatives and friends.
