She was raised in Richmond County. She attended the public schools of Richmond County, and later moved her family to Durham NC. where she was an employee of Duke Hospital working in environmental services for several years. Mrs. Joanne Middleton Kersey attended E.E. Smith High School (Kenansville) and Durham Technical Community College. She worked for Watts/Durham Regional hospital for forty years. She was a devoted mother and a friend to all that she came in contact with. she touched so many lives while here on earth. We know you will miss her a much as we will. Her sense of humor and kindness was so amazing that she made you laugh and cry. Thanks to everyone for the love you shared with her.

On Friday, May 10, 2023, Marjorie Selena Burris Bowman transitioned to her heavenly home.  HALLELUJAH!!!  She was born May 5, 1944, in York, South Carolina to John Henry Burris and Molly Selena Williams Burris.  Marjorie spent her formative years in York and was a graduate of Jefferson High School Class of 1962.  She relocated to Morristown, NJ where she met and married the love of her life Ralph Bowman.
